There were mixed fortunes for two of Reach plc’s biggest city websites in the latest online traffic figures, with the Manchester Evening News’ audience up by a fifth while sister title Birmingham Live’s declined by a similar amount.
According to the IPSOS figures for March, the MEN saw its audience grow from 8.6m in March last year to 10.5m last month, a rise of 22pc.
The MEN also saw monthly page views rise from 50.5m in March 2024 to 61.2m, a increase of 21pc.
By contrast, sister Reach title Birmingham Live saw its overall audience fall by 20.7pc to 7.5m while page views were down 23.pc at 44.4m.
Other strong performers included Leeds Live which more than trebled its audience to 4.6m, and Devon Live, up 74pc at 3.4m.
However Newsquest titles continued to dominate the user engagement charts, with visitors to the Kidderminster Shuttle website staying an average eight minutes, just ahead of the Salisbury Journal.

Websites which are ‘untagged’ are reported based on observed panel behaviour. These sites can experience volatility from month to month.
When a website is untagged, it means that it relies solely on data collected from the Ipsos Iris user-centric panel. Tagging enhances measurement, particularly for smaller sites, by improving the accuracy of the reported data.
