Ex-business editor compiles book of rugby club ‘bloopers’

A former business editor has followed-up his book charting the history of a local rugby club with a companion volume focusing on ‘bloopers.’

John Duckers previously published Red & Black to mark the 150th anniversary of Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club in 2023.

Now the former Birmingham Post man has followed it up with a collection of ‘fun anecdotes’ about the club entitled Rugby Cheek: Birmingham Moseley Bares All.

It records a seleciotn of amusing, outrageous, strange and idiotic incidents in the life of the club, ranging from underwater cycling to a former England captain taking out a telegraph pole while in charge of a 42ft bus.

Birmingham Moseley chairman and benefactor Dave Warren said: “It’s a very funny book which I am sure young and old will find entertaining.

“Young men in the prime of life have always enjoyed mischief and high jinks. This picks up on some of the naughty escapades they got up to down the years.”

All profits from the sale of the book will be going towards the Moseley Players’ Association’s project to replace the old floodlights with new (and far more economical) LED versions.

The book is available direct from the club, priced £10 for paperbacks and £16 for hardbacks.  To order, contact cpub media manager Terry Davies at [email protected]
